Gürcan Türkoğlu was born in İstanbul in 1955. Hegraduated fromthe Faculty of Political Sciences(Ankara University)in 1978 andbegan his diplomatic career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairsin 1979. He served at Turkish Embassies in Jeddah, Oslo, Madrid, Damascus, Baghdadand at the Permanent Delegation of Turkey to UN (NewYork). At home, he worked atthe departmentsof Cultural Affairs, Council of Europe,Middle East. He alsoserved as Chief of Cabinet and Diplomatic Advisor tothe Foreign Ministers, as Senior Diplomatic Advisor tothe Prime Ministerandto thePresident of the Republic. Türkoğluwas appointed asAmbassadorto Tehran (2006-07) andto UNESCO(2009-12). In 2014 hewas elected as Vice-President of theTurkish National CommisssionforUNESCOand appointed to the Foreign Policy Advisory Council at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ambassador Türkoğlu has assumed his duty asConsul General of Turkey in Jerusalem in October 2016. He speaks English and Spanish and has basic knowledge of Arabic, Persian and French.
