Press Release Regarding The "international Day Against Nuclear Tests" , 29.08.2010
The United Nations General Assembly, during its 64th session, unanimously adopted a resolution, submitted by Kazakhstan, on 2 December 2009 which declares 29 August as the “International Day Against Nuclear Tests”. Turkey welcomes this resolution.
Turkey recognizes that the cessation of all nuclear weapon test explosions and all other nuclear explosions constitutes an effective measure of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, thus constituting a meaningful step in the realization of a systemic process to achieve nuclear disarmament. In this regard, Turkey stresses the vital role of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) and its organization to achieve this outcome.
Turkey regards the “International Day Against Nuclear Tests” instrumental in raising public awareness about the effects of nuclear explosions and the significance of nuclear test ban with regard to the shared goal of a world free of nuclear weapons and a significant opportunity to concert the international efforts to this end.
